Team Match is a fun event where teams from each school compete against one another in two team events –  one Rookie and one Champ. Each event will consist of four dances that will be danced by four unique couples (eight individual dancers). Each school may have a Rookie team and a Champ team, but dancers may only dance in one of the two events. During team match, competitors are encouraged to cheer on their teammates as loudly as they can, sing their school songs, dress in costume, and wave a banner in the air.

The Rookie event is composed of the following dances:
Waltz
ChaCha
Tango
Jive/Swing

The Champ event is composed of the following dances:
Foxtrot
Rumba
Quickstep
Samba

Dancers can choose to dance either American or International style.

“Rookie” refers to anyone who dances Newcomer or Bronze. Couples who dance silver or higher are not eligible to dance in the Rookie event. Newcomers and Bronze dancers may dance up to the Champ event if they choose. At least one couple on the Rookie team must be a newcomer.

“Champ” refers to anyone who dances Silver or above. Newcomer and Bronze dancers may dance in the Champ event if they so choose.

Each dance is completed by an individual couple. Dancers are not permitted to compete in more than one dance for their team.

Judges and competitors take Team Match very seriously. It is a chance for teams to show their school pride and have fun dancing. We ask that you dress appropriately – meaning wear your costumes and dance shoes but not sweat pants, jeans, etc. Costumes that embody team spirit are also allowed and encouraged!
